*A bit about Deane Macgill and her late husband, George....
I came to know the Macgill family somewhere in the early 1990s through their daughter, Diane, whom I became good friends with while on a horse riding / camping trip at Masten, PA. To this day I maintain a loving, thriving friendship with her, her brother Scott and Deane herself.
I was immediately accepted into that humorous and kind family, which I've attended numerous gatherings and dinners over the years.
Besides keeping a beautiful home and property, Deane also enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, treasure hunting for antiques, fishing and entering things in the Sullivan County Fair. Anyone that knows Deane knows that when you stopped at her house you were always offered something to eat and or drink, hospitality abounded there always. On one occasion my niece, Amanda, stopped by her home with me so I could introduce her to Deane, as I knew she would appreciate her. After about five minutes of Amanda complimenting her beautiful flowers, Deane promptly went in to her porch and came back out with a handful of dried seeds of the type for her.
Most notable besides her hospitality and kindness, was her love of her 'things' - she had an artist's eye for the interesting and unusual things, as well as colorful objects. She loved attending yard sales, and over the years has procured quite an assortment of items that she has loved and collected, now to be offered to the public through our online only onsite auction.
I would be remiss not to share a line about her late husband, George. To say he was a character cuts it short. Always the prodding, funny, antagonist that you could never get mad at as an outsider...we laughed and jeered at each other at every chance. George was a collector also, mostly bottles, old tools...as well as a master fisherman and grouse hunter, most above all, a nice guy.
You may ask the point of my little personal explanation of my relationship with the Macgills, and I will tell you, when you have had the pleasure of knowing such a fine family as this, well, to let others know that you recognize, appreciate, and love them, it's just the right thing to do, and it feels good.
I wish Deane all the best in her twilight years and in her new surroundings, as well as all of her wonderful children and their families.
With all my respect,
Ron
